Thank you for sharing. While I do love and highly recommend recarpeting ballrooms, this client did not value that element of design.

Each level and segment of the industry prices their work differently. Entry level wedding planners and those planning approachable budgets often start by charging $5000 for their services, which luxury wedding planners often charge in the 6-figure range. It is important to understand what you were buying, and what you were getting at that price point.

I hope you have a beautiful engagement, and that you do find a way to enjoy wedding planning. Often times, for someone who doesn't want to get back down with the details, hiring a wedding planner, and an event designer is the best thing to do. I wish you luck!

Well, this is a sad and unfortunate reply. It's sad that you see yourself in this light and that you don't find value in playing the long game or investing in real relationships. But since you took the time to watch and write, I want to give you the respect of a comment and perhaps illuminate things you missed as you interpreted this through your own lens. 1. Business is about people. All things being equal, people want to do business with people that they like. All things not being equal, people want to do business with people that they like. Those relationships are built over time, and so while I never said, "chase us for months or years, and maybe will notice you," I stand by the belief that the best partnerships come from real relationships. And real relationships are built over time. They have to start somewhere, so why wouldn't you start by engaging with the work? 2. Yes, I emphasize that my time is valuable. Time is a perishable resource, and it is completely nonrefundable. I don't want my time wasted, and the way in which many people approach myself and others in my position is, in fact, a waste of time. 3. I also never said that I couldn't spare moment of my time to look at a portfolio. I respond to every email that I get. I review and respond to every comment that is left on my videos. I personally respond to every DM that I receive on Instagram. Do you have any idea how much time that takes? It is literally hours and hours. And I dedicate that time and give it because I respect the people who reach out to me. That doesn't mean that they're all doing in a way that will move the needle forward. 4. Speaking of time invested, how do you think I got on the radar of venues, magazines, influencers, and tastemakers? It was not by sending standardized emails and offering discounts. I invested - and continue to invest - a tremendous amount of time building these relationships while simultaneously doing work worthy of their attention. 5. Your comment about how we as wedding planners would replace you is a sad indication of how you see yourself. People take great photos with iPhones, they edit them with filters, and they are fine for some people. Do you really think yourself no better than an AI application? I am looking for an artist. I am looking for a professional, someone who sees the world the way that I do, that can filter my design and my client's love story and deliver images that stand the test of time. Do you really think that we as an industry are just looking for quick and easy? Maybe in your segment of the market. Certianly not mine. 6. I never said that I was offended by an email, only that they are not effective. 7. Do we act like we are the hand that feeds you, or do you give wedding planners (or venues or blogs) too much power? There are legions of photographers and videographers, make-up artists, stationery companies, etc. that are booked solid because clients and couples seek them out. They have a solid online presence, they speak to their ideal clients, and they run good businesses. Do you? The only thing you got right is that we are partners. And if you listen to or watch any of the content I create, you will see that I say, time and time again, that I don't "do" any of these things. I don't make the bouquets. I don't take the photos, I don't cook the food. My skill is in seeing people, knowing them, and understanding them. I envision a world that does not yet exist, and I have the will to bring it to life through the selection and management of creative teams. Ultimately, I am the right person to teach you. But I will say this: Not one wedding planner I know-especially at the luxury level-looks at their partners as interchangeable commodities. You do that to yourself. By considering yourself replaceable, you are. By offering mass discounts, you are saying that the only differentiator you can stand on is price. You are leading the race to the bottom. And by leaving comments like this - full of quotations, pithy retorts, and emojis - you are revealing yourself to be sad and bitter and angry. But you proved me right. You left a comment on my work, and you certainly got on my radar, didn't you?

I think you need to be more specific and give them a visual. If I saw "beach," I would think that we would have toes in the sand, which is either open sandals or barefoot. What do you want them to wear?
